Climate

A hot equatorial climate is found near Lake Tanganyika and in the Ruzizi River plain.  It is often windy on the lake. Other regions have a mild and pleasant climate. Burundi has two rainy seasons and two dry seasons: the major rainy season is from February to May and the minor one is between September and November; the longer dry season is from June to August and the shorter one between December and January.

Transportation

The main airport in Burundi is Bujumbura International Airport (BJM) and the national airline is Air Burundi. Travellers can check Air Burundi, Ethiopian Airlines or Kenya Airways and search if there are connecting flights between your country and Burundi.

Currency

The Burundi Franc (BIF) is the national currency of Burundi. Credit cards are not generally accepted. Travellers’ cheque in US Dollars or Euros are accepted but the commission rates are usually high.

Travel Tips

• Every Saturday morning is the time of obligatory community work for the country.  Shops and restaurants are closed

• Always carry passport during the stay in Burundi

• Security is a concern, avoid night travelling
